A weekly update for families — January 26, 2026
Welcome to PS 437Q, our new District 24 elementary school opening in Woodside, Queens this fall.
I’m so glad you’re here.
My name is Suzanne Sheerin, and I’m the founding principal. A lot is happening behind the scenes, so I wanted to start sharing regular updates as a way for families to stay connected and get a sense of the school we’re building together.
We’ll be welcoming kindergarteners first, and for many of our children, this will be their first experience in school. In those early days, they’re learning routines, getting to know the adults around them, and figuring out what school feels like. What matters most at the start is simple: that children feel safe, supported, and excited to come each day. That’s where we’re starting, and it’s guiding the decisions we’re making now.
As the year unfolds, that strong foundation will open the door to rich learning experiences. Children will build skills, explore ideas, and learn through projects, hands-on work, and real-world experiences. In future updates, I’ll share what a kindergarten day will look and feel like, how learning works here in plain language, and the progress we’re making as the school takes shape, along with clear ways to stay connected and ask questions.
You don’t need to do anything right now. This is simply a way to stay informed as we get closer to opening our doors.
