Hello from PS 437Q — A weekly update for families — February 16, 2026

Welcome back!

When children know what to expect, school feels easier. That’s especially true in kindergarten, when everything - from lining up to snack time to clean-up - can feel new.

At PS 437Q, we’re thinking carefully about how routines are introduced and practiced. Children won’t be expected to know everything right away. Routines will be taught slowly, modeled clearly, and practiced often, with adults supporting children every step of the way.

As those routines become familiar, children are able to move through the day with more ease. When they know what comes next and where to go for help, they can focus on learning, playing, and building relationships with classmates.

That’s why our goal isn’t perfection. It’s comfort and confidence. When children feel settled in their day, they’re more willing to try new things, ask questions, and take risks in their learning. This is the kind of school experience we’re intentionally building from the start.

If you have questions, you can reach me directly at ps437q@schools.nyc.gov. You can also follow us on Instagram at @ps437q.

Warmly,

Suzanne Sheerin
