Hello from... West Q Elementary
A weekly update for families — February 23, 2026
I’m excited to share that PS 437Q now has a name. We will now be known as West Q Elementary!
The name reflects where we are - Western Queens - and the community we’re proud to be part of here in Woodside and District 24. It also reflects the kind of school we’re building together as our founding families and students shape what West Q Elementary will come to mean.
At West Q Elementary, “WEST” also reflects the values that guide our work each day: wonder, exploration, safety, and togetherness. We want children to feel curious about the world, safe enough to try new things, and supported as part of a community where they learn alongside one another.
As we get closer to opening, you’ll begin to see the name appear on our website, materials, and future communications. PS 437Q will remain our official DOE designation, and West Q Elementary will be the name families and students know us by.
As always, please feel free to reach out at ps437q@schools.nyc.gov if you have questions, and you can follow along on Instagram at @ps437q as we continue preparing for the year ahead.
Warmly,
Suzanne Sheerin
I.A. Founding Principal, West Q Elementary
