Hello from West Q Elementary
A weekly update for families — March 9, 2026
Before children can focus on reading, writing, or numbers, they need to feel that they belong.
For many of our children, kindergarten will be their first experience in school. They are learning new routines, meeting new adults, and figuring out what it means to be part of a classroom. That sense of belonging doesn’t happen by accident - it is built intentionally, day by day.
At West Q Elementary, the first weeks of school will focus heavily on community. Children will learn one another’s names. They’ll practice listening and speaking to each other with respect. They’ll work in pairs and small groups. They’ll begin to understand that their voice matters and that they are an important part of the classroom.
Adults will take time to truly get to know each child - their interests, their strengths, what makes them laugh, and what helps them feel comfortable. When children feel known, they are more willing to participate, take risks, and try new things.
Community is not separate from learning. It is the foundation that makes learning possible.
As we prepare to open our doors, we are thinking carefully about how to create classrooms where children feel safe, valued, and excited to return each day. That is where everything begins.
