A weekly update for families — April 27, 2026

Families often ask if West Q will have a special track or program for kindergarten.

The answer is yes - but not in the way you might expect.

At West Q, we don’t believe hands-on, meaningful learning should be something only some students get access to. We believe every child should experience it, every day.

That means your child won’t have to wait for a special class to build, explore, or solve problems. They will do that as they learn to read, write, and work with numbers.

You might see students building a structure and testing whether it stands, then changing their design to make it more stable. Or collecting real information, organizing it into a chart, and explaining what it shows. Or creating something to teach others what they’ve learned.

This is not separate from learning foundational skills. It’s how students make sense of them. They are taught clearly and supported every step of the way, and then they use those skills right away through real work that requires thinking, discussion, and problem solving.

This is what we mean by project-based learning. Not something extra. Not something only some students experience.

A classroom where every child is actively thinking, exploring, and learning - every day.

Warmly,
Suzanne Sheerin
I.A. Founding Principal, West Q Elementary
