A weekly update for families — March 30, 2026
Spend a few minutes with a young child and you’ll hear a lot of questions.
Why does that happen?
How does that work?
What if we tried it this way?
Curiosity is one of the most powerful engines for learning in the early years of school. When children are curious, they lean in. They explore. They keep thinking.
As we design West Q, one of our goals is to make sure school strengthens that natural curiosity rather than rushing children past it. That means creating classrooms where questions are welcomed, ideas are explored, and students have time to think, talk, build, and try things out. It means designing learning experiences where children are not just receiving information, but actively making sense of the world around them.
When curiosity is protected, something wonderful happens: children begin to see learning as something they are part of, not something that simply happens to them. That sense of discovery is something we’ll build, day by day, at West Q.
If you ever have questions, you are always welcome to reach out at ps437q@schools.nyc.gov or follow us on IG: @west_q_elementary to stay connected.
Warmly,
Suzanne Sheerin
